Increased Lifespan and the mice experiment

Mice, we feed them, we hack them, we trow them onto the blender, we make them explode; However this little furry friend has proven to be very useful... just read.

Several studies have found that mice on Calorie Restriction live on average 40% longer than regular mice. If we put that on human scale, given that a human lives, let´s say 100 years optimally, we would get a 140 year-old human. think about all you can do in 40 years, Fuck I don´t even have 40 years yet! And considering at the pace that tech is moving it would be pretty cool to hang around the planet for the next few decades,, things are about to get intresting... to say the least.

However, a long life is not enough, what is truly desirable longevity PLUS good health. It is not how long you live, it is how good you live those years what counts.
According to Aubrey DeGrey, the age degeneration disease(s) occurs from extended cellular damage due to metabolism byproducts.

Within his "7 reason for aging" list we have the disturbing yet preventable "IntraCellular Garbage" and "ExtraCellular Garbage" -- Which is in layman´s language residual crap that accumulates over time as a byproduct of regular cell function this garbage eventually interferes with cellular respiration, nutrition, replication and excretion.

we can deal with this nuissance without pills or drugs of any kind. the key is balancing the intake of good fuel into the body. Let´s look it a little further...
in a fasting period, while not burdened nor taxed by digestion, our bodies repairing and cleaning systems get more active;

Waste is systematically removed from the bloodstream and intercellular space, weak cells die and are replaced, while dead cells are recycled as nutrients.

basically we´re giving the cleaning system a chance to catch up and clean the mess, therefore restoring natural homeostasis.

The paradox of fasting is that it leads to more nutrition, not less. there´s an old myth that says that you have to eat "well",, and "well" usually means a lot..... a lot of crap.
eating a lot does not ensure proper nutrition and also JAMS the whole mechanism, taxing the system badly.

regulating your food intake can improve your health in many ways, first by eliminating the digestive "goo" screen

When digestion takes place, residues on the digestive duct form a "goo" which restricts proper nutrient absortion trough the intestinal walls, leading to malnutrition even on the precence of copious amounts of food.

while fasting this residual "goo" gets naturally wiped away, so that when you eat, all nutrients get delivered to the bloodstream instead of the toilet.


So we can add up another benefit to our list --> Increased Nutrient assimilation

the reptilian part of the brain (according to triune model) processes lack of food as a life-threatening situation, therefore a hyper-alert state is triggered, your senses heighten and your cognition sharpens. This was meant to make you a better hunter, however in modern times we can still exploit this to gain an edge.

The brain developed in order for individuals to interpret, relate, survive and thrive on a given envionment, this may be a reason why fasting increases Brain-Cell growth activity. Another influence of an "empty stomach" on cognition is that, believe it or not, digestion taxes on brainpower.

here´s why.
when you eat, the digestive apparatus has to liquify food so that it can be assimilated onto the bloodstream, in order to do that, a finely orchestrated process takes place.

to make a long story short.
1- processed food gets in
2- digestive acid is added
3- PERISTALTIC MOVEMENT begins. and here lies our problem.

peristaltic movement is the bowel movement which moves food trough the digesting system, this coordinated movement, as unconciouss and automatic as it may be, consumes a lot of brainpower.

Intermitent Fasting gets you the same benefits that a Calorie Restriction diet would provide, and also food would taste a whole lot better when you do eat.

Intermitent Fasting is disencouraged for females because women have an inbuilt energy saving mechanism; So that when food is scarce, their bodies would retain as much energy as possible. Intermitent Fasting on women would result in obesity, so women BEWARE, you are warned.. don´t e-mail me any gym bills, PLEASE.


If you want a far fetched-twist to it, Mystics of all times have sustained repeatedly that Fasting leads to astral cleansing, which is triggered by an increase of vibration of the subtle bodies of the human being, leading to increased psychic resonance with the environment (more cool "coincidences") and being unaffected by the lower vibes (da "shit").

The key point is achieving balance, digestive cycles last from 16-24 hours, with that in mind try to keep a balance between what you put in, what you use, and what gets out.

My First Ayahuasca experience

This summer I went to Peru, in order to try for myself the so-called rope of the spirit or ayahuasca.


I was introduced to a 47 year old shaman named Lucio, I have to say that this man looked a lot younger for his age, also, he was a gifted creative artist.
We went into the , as they call it, "chackra" of the shaman, within the countryside.

the group was composed of six takers, Lucio, the shaman, and his assistant/driver, who was later kicked out because he did not want to participate actively during the session, as he refused to drink.

we were asked to wear white or clear color clothes, dark colors of cloth were banned from the sitting. and no shoes.

Also the group was asked to do a 3 day purge with laxatives, everyone, except me, because of my strict vegan diet. All of us were told to drink plenty of water before the session, and to carry a bottle of water for hydration purposes.

as we sat down, Lucio handed over, a cigarette called "mapacho", it was a very cool, twilight atmosphere, since there was no electricity within the hut and lighting was our only light, aside from the mapacho cigs which shined brightly on the dark as you inhaled it. it was very cool indeed.
we were sitting in silence between the alternating shaman's songs and the roaring thunder.

After a while, Lucio called us to the main bench, he handed over a small amount of the mixture (ayahuasca) to each of us.

The experience lasts about 2(two) hours; of intense psychoactive journey, the substance begins to cause psycho-physical effects 15 minutes after oral ingestion.
it is a small, yet potently sour mixture.

your body may start to shake, this can be controlled by exerting control of the breath. its strange, the more you are in control of your own breath, the less the substance controls you. in these sittings concentration is the main key to a successful experience.

at first it looked much like a normal LSD experience, but.. as the experience unfolded:

I saw geometrical patterns of light, a caduceous staff, visions of ancient Indian or Arabic palaces, and a blue human being or entity, the symbols were glowing in beautiful fluorescent light, i saw casino slot machines (mmm.. a good sign, perhaps? maybe I should give it a try)

after a while I begun to see jungle, animals. when the vision started to become creepy, I used my will to fly away, and went back to palace.

I have to admit that even when I thought I had my body 100% controlled, my mind was very hard to control, under the effect of the sacred plants, I found my stream of consciousness becoming WILD, almost impossible to control, thoughts were flooding out. as opposed to my normal state in which I have little or no mental chatter.

the shaman said that what I saw is what I received as a gift, from the sacred mother plant. he told me that with repeated use one could attain gifts of clairvoyance, second sight, magnetism among other "dones"(gifts of power).
As for the group:
the reactions were very diverse, others freaked, cried, and vomited a lot during the session. the shaman said they were releasing trauma. they were healing.
As for me:
I felt peace, however I was unable to speak, and ask intelligent questions, i was more like a mute witness of infinite pleasure. i felt powerful, my perception was SHARP, yet i could not express nor verbalize any of this.

The effects wore off completely after 2 hours. and I was back in town by 4 am.

The after effects of the mixture are something, wonderful, liberating, I felt love and connection with everything else, I felt no anger nor anxiousness, it was a brotherly feeling that I had not experienced since a long, long time ago. however, I felt a strong need for silence and spoke little if at all for the next couple of weeks.

There seems to be a restructuring and purging of the psyche going on even when the "flashy" effects wear off.
I can't wait to repeat the experience, it was absolutely wonderful.

Silver Tounge, Golden Mind

and why verbalization and high abstract reasoning do not match.



I´ve found out that inner speech lowers "intelligence" greatly.
speech is for communication with another sentient being,, when you have the matter already sorted out yourself.

it is well known that when learning a forein language people will tend to mentally translate that language onto their mother tounge, in order to "better" understand it.


however, this unnecesary process interferes with effective language learning. it makes it hard and slow.

1- Walk to the kitchen and drink 2 glasses of water.

2- Close your eyes, focus on your forehead, and count 20 deep breaths
[if you succeeded counting to 20 without any intruding thought, proceed. otherwise, repeat 2]
3- Perform the task while maintaining focused mental silence

4- finally, measure your time and be amazed.

as the vey well known Yin-Yang simbol tells us, there is a dark seed on the light side, and viceversa.

in a nutshell, it´s harder to express yourself with ease in oral form .


however, as our decorative friend, Yin-Yang says, there is a seed of light on the most abyssmal darkness
meaning that.. there is a workaround.

It has been proven over time that reading out loud activates several brain areas leading to an intense brain workout.

1- Get ready,
Set up a recording device, grab a piece of interesting literature , something heavily packed with

emotion.

as always variety is good.

2- Get comfortable, place your right hand on your solar plexus
(if your voice projects out properly your hand will vibrate accordingly)

3- Read out loud for 10 minutes, focus on how you sound, hear yourself.

4- stop and listen to the recording. notice where you need to improve.

The TAO of the brain

As neuroscience knows nowadays, you must use a specified skill in order to improve the neural network in your brain that handles that task.


it seems simple right?, two steps,

1) design a functional neural network (by modelling or by trial and error it doesn´t matter much) and 2) strenghten the network by repeated use.

"too much of a good thing is not always better"


it all seems too easy, however there are things to be considered in order to get the max out of your practice.



These are:
1) Moderation/Overtraining : As you know your brain needs a downtime in which it rebuilds and improves what you have practiced.

Have you ever been suck in some issue that you could not solve, you left it alone, took a nap perhaps, or did something else and when you came back, *PRESTO* you solved it on the spot.

if you keep on exerting and using a certain circuit on your brain, it will cause, over a period of time, brain fatigue on that specific circuit, which leads to our dear friend STRESS, an enemy of the mind and overall health, as you may know.

"too much of a good thing is not always better"


2) The Protoss Syndrome : The Protoss are an old race in the starcraft universe, a civilization that is very old and heavily set on its ways.

how, this relates to brain practice, you ask? Simple, once you´ve reached a high point on your practice that you´ve mastered something to a degree, you´ve reached what is called a plateau of improvement, at this point practice will have little effect,it is advised that you lessen the LENGTH of your practice gradually , and begin a new practice, by doing this you will allow novel experiences to build new networks while maintaining the old.

when a circuit its set strong on your brain it only needs maintenance, heavy practice is only to install a new circuit or enhance the pattern by lowering firing threshold.


remember that the brain tends to ignore redundant information, and habitual tasks become automated.
you can progress anyway if you keep hammering on a plateau, BUT it will take *MUCH* more time and energy, and you make your mistakes harder to refine if you hammer too much.



so in order to maximize your results, it is recommendable that you cycle your trainings when you have achieved a level and are STUCK there. switch to mainenance mode AND do something else, start a new discipline, THEN when the scenario repeats itself, refocus on your previous training, switch back to practice mode and let the new networks aid you on the task.
you´ll see yourself making steady progress again.

remember Einsteins´ wise words " A problem cannot be solved with the same level of conciousness that arose " .


and by all means, NEVER QUIT ON A PLATEAU!
be sure to go back to your training after you fed up your brain.

Remember to refine and change your practice methods now and then.


Above all,
Remember to keep your balance allways while evolving at the same time.
refresh your mental inventory,

now that you have eliminated stress you can begin considering working on your fluid intelligence.


There are two ways to the G spot ---> NOVELTY and CREATIVITY


Novelty, novel, new, unfamiliar, strange... that which can make you feel insecure, excited and shakes your ground, THESE situations are the of kind that you want.

by facing novel challenges you gain experience and new valuable neurodes. if you feel confused it is usually a good sign, it means that your brain will have to do some work to make sense of the dynamic that you´re involved in. you will have to make a creative effort to bring about a new understanding. wich implies creating a new neu-ral network to handle the situation, the brain will have to rewire itself.

+ CONNECTIONS = + VERSATITLIY = + INTELLIGENCE


You can learn a new language, or master a random, yet useful, skill.
It´s gotta be something NEW, and something MEANINGFUL to you.
the main idea is challenging your gray matter with something unexpected, regularly.

conquering challenges is the spice of life.


But this is half of the equation.... You still need


TO USE WHAT YOU KNOW TO PRODUCE WHAT YOU DON´T



Create, Create, Create

You are a MasterMind, you were meant to create, your brain works by association, and this is core the principle of creativity. Unleash a creative thunderstorm which will crystalize something BRAND NEW onto reality, mix unrelated things and cook on your head something marvelous. just for the kick of it.


by creating you are using the ultimate brain training. you are stepping out of the habitual patterns of thinking. you use all your crystalized-database arsenal in your mind oven using the fire of your creative flame.

Write a Fictional story, Draw a portait, Program an applet or game, Become a mangaka, Sort out your knowlegde and ideas by blogging.

when you produce you take your technical and theoretical knowledge to another level.

Try it. you will see that without mastery, you cannot materialize creation nor transmit the knowlege to other beings properly.


All intellectual work must be productive, otherwise is useless

Brain Training II - Part A

To recap.

Fluid intelligence reflects the efficient online functioning of the central nervous system, solving new abstract reasoning problems

Crystallized intelligence reflects individually acquired knowledge/skills and culture-specific content

So let´s focus on fluid intelligence.


This type of intelligence is very desirable, it is involved and heavily interwined with creativity, you can access this beauty when you are stress-free, relaxed. otherwise it is immediately shut down, reverting the brain to a more primitive reflex-based reaction machine.
Before you curse Charles Darwing´s mama, remember that this WAS useful when life or death situations were every day´s history. However, in these days it works against us.

The first key to developing and harnessing this power is to RELAX.

to do this consider the following:

1 - avoiding stressful situations. duh.

identify the situations that bug you, actually sit down with pen and paper, list them one by one.
then if it is possible eliminate them, if not, reduce them, if you cannot do that either, elaborate an ideal response (this will get your creative juices flowing) and rehearse it on your mind until it becomes automatic. if you can perform in an honorable manner, preserving your status much of your stress will be cut down considerably.

it is very important that you create this list on paper, doing this you OBJECTIFY IT, remember that you strip a demon of its power by identyfing and analizing it.

This is almost like a mantra today. "Cardiovascular excercise is good for you"

Why:

A) It Releases Endorphins

E) Fights Aging, increases bone density.
F) Increases sexual appeal, desire and stamina.
G) Rises metabolic rate.


3 - Laugh.

Humor releases stress. if nothing else, laugh a lot. it will lessen a HUGE burden out of your shoulders. be lighthearted, you will feel better, and smarter.

being grumpy is old-fashioned.


4 - Drink

no, not booze, mind you. Lots of water is what you need in order to keep your head clean and flush the toxins out of your body. your urine must be clear, NEVER yellow.

minium 3 Liters of pure-water,infutions and soft drinks do not count, daily , distributed trough the day.

5 - Sex

As if you needed extra encouragement, sex releases endorphins and releases stress.

6 - Brain-Wave entrainment.

Theta is the frequency related to creativity, whereas Alpha is relaxed yet firm awareness.
Hook up your PC headphones to this program and spend at least 20 minutes daily on these frequencies.

if you´re heavily depleted try delta frequencies.

Brain Trainings - Part I

Training your brain is like training a muscle, you will develop its power to the extent it is challenged.

The most crucial factor on human existence is intelligence, if you think deeply enough; it sets a baseline for practically everything you do. Even feelings are learned emotional responses to simuli.


I´ve been studying Howard Gardener´s Model, which is more appealing to me
he claims that intelligence is not unidimentional. rather, he says that there are 7 sets of skills, called "intelligences". you can read these here. i´ve been thinking about his model and made it my own, Here it is.

Skills that compound my version of crystalized intelligence:

*Logical (Math, Sequences, What comes next?)
*Recognition of patterns (deals with categorization)
*Discrimination of non-equals.(being sensory input, or differeneces between concepts)
*Working memory (Ability to hold taks relevant data on memory while thinking/performing)
*Encoding (The Skill to process, learn and Understand)
*Behavioural (Interpretation/Execution)
*Social/Emotional T(The ability to perform a behaviour to get a specific response from other people; or to identify and respond to behavioural patterns)
*Spiritual (Ability to interact with the quantum field)

this is a compendium of all the knowlegde that has been flowing trough the web these last years.
today I will share 2 videos with you.

sounds beautiful and works to an extent, however they explain it partially.

your thoughts make your reality because they shape your non-concious behaviour and create positive expentancy.

positive expetancy creates positive results, and THIS in turn creates a positive loopback feed that reinfornces that expentancy while creating "neural pathways of success", wich will finetune your autopilot setting success as the ultimate goal.

as it is known, the brain is a "supercomputer" which helps you to interpret the world, by the filters and rules YOU have accepted on how the world works.

on every day´s life, on any task that you engage, you are using only an infinitesimal part of your potential. even on so called "genius" levels.

you have EXCESS capability to BE, DO and HAVE anything you want.

your performance tends to conform your self concept. if you expect something to be hard, guess what....

It will be fucking difficult, why?, because you unconciously inhibited your own capacities.

on the other hand if you are confident on your supercomputer (aka brain) all your tasks will be like a stroll on the park.

people have been conditioned to be stupid, take a look at the movies or cartoons you grew up watching, smart people were always portayed as weakly, ugly, socially unfit persons with personality disorders and evil disposition, the stereotype of the nerdy scientist, who will NEVER get laid. this is a meta-program that will drive kids away from knowledge and science.
not to mention the bossy parents that say "Leave that alone, you will break it" or the infamous
"You can´t do that" "That´s too hard".

good programming is essential
My father used to say " Anything that a human being can achieve another one can achieve also with the adequate training"
for that i will allways be grateful.



there is no objetive difficulity, a level 5 problem will seem to be huge to a level 2 person; however this same situation will be a piece of cake to a level 10 individual.
the situation being the same, one person will percieve it as easy, while the other won´t.



you don´t percieve reality as it is, you percieve it as YOU are.

an example of this is shown when you walk down the street; you might see, a)poverty, difficulties, polution, unemployment, global warming, maladies and human misery, if that´s what resonates within you.

OR b) you can see, posibilities, joy, peace, marvels of science, architecture, systems at work.
it´s up where you put your focus onto.

it is what resonates with your inner world, what you will percieve and act upon.

it´s like walking on a higher plane.

without getting metaphysical, if you are familiar with physics you will know that the experience cannot be separated from the observer. matter can be percieved as a particle or a wave function, this depends scritcly on HOW it is observed.

this leads us to the 2nd fragment of wisdom, this movie was releaced not too long ago, it elucidates on quantum physics, and how the world is an illusion assembled on our minds.




So, what is "REAL" might, not be universally "REAL" but its real enough for you,, if you believe on it.


Thoughts are causes, circumstances are effects.
Take a look at your environment, all that surrounds you, your possesions, your environment, your relationships, your job. These are the results of your paradigm. enjoy or change them as you see fit!

You are creating your future now.


as your inner world changes, it will reflect on your outer world.
bottom line, program your mind for success, and success will become YOU.


However the intellectual realization of this will not improve your life at all, actions are mostly unconcious programs that repeat themselves, you need to change the program of your "game " character in order to modify the neural rut, effortlessy. this will be the theme of the next post.
